Aareal Bank Appoints Caroline Mahl Patel to Lead North American Business

Aareal Bank AG is advancing its U.S. strategy through the appointment of Caroline Mahl Patel as the leader of its North American operations. Previously with Wells Fargo, Patel brings over 20 years of experience in commercial real estate finance, focusing on hospitality and specialty asset classes, and will join the bank on June 15, 2026. She will take on the roles of CEO of Aareal Capital Corporation (ACC) and Head of Origination on August 1, 2026.

Part of the Aareal Ambition strategy involves repositioning the bank's U.S. portfolio towards residential and hospitality financing, as well as reducing office lending exposure. Christof Winkelmann, a key executive at Aareal Bank, expressed confidence in Patel's expertise to lead the portfolio's long-term repositioning in this vital market.

In parallel, Michael Dalton will transition to the role of Chief Risk Officer of ACC, focusing on the restructuring of distressed loans to further support the repositioning efforts.
