ABB to Sell Robotics Division to SoftBank for $5.375 Billion

ABB Ltd has announced the divestment of its Robotics division to SoftBank Group for an enterprise value of $5.375 billion. This decision replaces earlier plans to spin off the business. The transaction awaits regulatory approvals and is projected to close by mid-to-late 2026. The divestment is intended to immediately benefit ABB shareholders and adheres to ABB’s capital allocation principles.

Peter Voser, Chairman of ABB, stated that SoftBank's offer aligns with the strengths of the division and would provide an excellent foundation for its employees. The divestment will change ABB’s reporting structure, moving the Robotics division under Discontinued operations by Q4 2025.

Masayoshi Son, CEO of SoftBank, emphasized synergy between SoftBank's AI capabilities and ABB Robotics' technology. Following this deal, ABB aims to maintain focus on electrification and automation.
