AFYREN and Südzucker Extend Bioeconomy Partnership
AFYREN and Südzucker are renewing their long-term collaboration to advance sustainable innovation within the EU's circular, low-carbon economy. This partnership is crucial to the EU's AFTER-BIOCHEM initiative, solidified through a 2021 contract. Südzucker supplies agricultural by-products, ensuring local feedstock for AFYREN NEOXY, the first industrial plant producing 100% biobased carboxylic acids.
The collaboration addresses biomass availability, a key challenge for the bioeconomy. By sourcing non-food biomass sustainably, they aim to avoid food competition. The partnership enhances the EU's bioeconomy sector, tapping into diverse markets and reducing reliance on fossil resources.
AFYREN NEOXY's location near Südzucker ensures a stable local supply and strengthens their commitment to a circular model. The AFTER-BIOCHEM project benefits from €33 million in EU funding, involving partners across Europe.
