ams OSRAM has unveiled a next-gen microLED array designed for AI optical interconnects, moving towards product development. This advancement in EVIYOS microLED technology highlights ultra-low-power consumption at high speeds, a crucial factor in AI infrastructure development.

These microLED arrays are set to revolutionize AI data-center connectivity. Key features include a cut-off frequency over 1 GHz, energy usage below 2 pJ/bit, and massively parallel, short-reach optical input/output paths. These attributes directly address interconnect bottlenecks in modern AI architectures where data movement is a significant energy drain.

The adapted EVIYOS technology now targets optical I/O components for AI servers. In this configuration, singulated microLEDs, coupled with fiber-optic channels, offer high bandwidth density and energy-efficient data rates over multi-channel fiber optics.

This innovative approach replaces single ultra-high-speed lines with numerous parallel channels, offering improved reliability, efficiency, and simplicity over traditional laser transmitters.
