The need for a political shift in car mobility in Switzerland

Auto-Suisse, at its annual press conference, emphasized the urgent need for political change in Switzerland to support car mobility and climate goals. Heavy regulation, high energy costs, and a lack of economic incentives are hindering demand. In 2025, car registrations reached a historically low level of 234,000 vehicles, well below the pre-pandemic level of over 300,000.

The widespread presence of electric cars on the Swiss market shows a slow ramp-up, with a market share of 34% in 2025. Auto-suisse calls for deregulation measures, such as the abolition of a 4% tax on car imports and the promotion of competition in the electricity market to reduce the financial pressure on the sector.
