Commerzbank and Visa Forge Strategic Partnership in Card Business

Commerzbank and Visa have announced a strategic partnership aimed at expanding their cooperation in the card business. Commerzbank customers will predominantly receive Visa cards moving forward, enhancing their payment options both online and abroad.

This partnership supports Commerzbank's strategy to access future payment innovations, with an immediate plan to integrate Visa's debit function into Commerzbank's Girocards. This initiative is set to simplify online and international shopping for customers.

Commerzbank's Thomas Schaufler expressed enthusiasm, highlighting the benefits of enhanced payment offerings and secure online transactions. Visa's Albrecht Kiel emphasized the potential to shape the future of payments through this collaboration, leveraging Visa's global network and cybersecurity strength.

Starting in 2026, Commerzbank's retail banking clients will gain access to new Visa debit and credit cards. The partnership also extends to comdirect, where Visa has been a preferred partner since 2020.
