BNP Paribas Maintains CET1 Ratio amid ECB O-SII Update
BNP Paribas confirms its CET1 ratio trajectory following the European Central Bank's update on the assessment framework for Other Systemically Important Institutions (O-SIIs). On April 28th, 2026, the ECB assigned BNP Paribas an O-SII score of 911 points, situating it in bucket 8 of the ECB floor methodology. This translates to a 2.0% O-SII buffer requirement, reflecting a 50 basis point increase in CET1 requirements.
The increased requirements will be phased in, with 25 basis points effective January 1, 2027, and an additional 25 basis points on January 1, 2028. BNP Paribas anticipated these changes and has already accounted for them, maintaining a target CET1 ratio of 13% by December 31, 2027, and 2028.
As of March 31, 2026, BNP Paribas reported a CET1 ratio of 12.8%, surpassing the SREP requirement of 10.42%. This development does not impact the Group's leverage ratio or shareholder distribution policy. The bank plans to release its Q1 2026 results on April 30.
