HyProMag USA Advances Rare Earth Magnet Recycling in South Carolina

HyProMag USA LLC, a joint venture involving CoTec Holdings Corp., has commissioned the Inserma hard disk drive magnet pre-processing system at its facility in Williston, South Carolina. This development marks a significant step in enhancing the U.S. rare earth magnet recycling platform, crucial for domestic supply chains in advanced manufacturing and AI.

The Williston site now hosts two automated Inserma units capable of separating magnets from end-of-life hard disk drives in roughly three seconds, with a combined weekly processing capacity of over 60,000 drives. The initiative supports CoTec's "hub-and-spoke" strategy, with recovered materials feeding a planned hub in Texas.

Federal and local leaders attended the commissioning, emphasizing the importance of strengthening domestic manufacturing capabilities for critical materials. Congressman Joe Wilson highlighted the significance of this investment in reinforcing national security by securing supply chains.
