Eckert & Ziegler Secures GMP Certification for Actinium-225
On October 28, 2026, Eckert & Ziegler Therapeutics GmbH, a subsidiary of Eckert & Ziegler SE, received regulatory approval for the manufacturing of Actinium-225 (Ac-225) in Braunschweig, Germany. The certification ensures compliance with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards, allowing the isotope to be used in investigational treatments.
Recognized as a promising alpha emitter, Ac-225 is increasingly used in targeted radiopharmaceutical applications. The production involves cyclotron-based irradiation of Radium-226, with processing at the company's Braunschweig site. Custom-engineered hot cell systems from Isotope Technologies Dresden GmbH support these activities.
To mitigate supply chain challenges, Eckert & Ziegler has integrated Radium-226 sourcing strategies, including recycling unconverted Ra-226. The company plans expansions in China and possibly in the USA to enhance production capabilities.
