ENGIE Completes Largest Wind Farm in the Middle East and Africa
ENGIE has announced the full commissioning of the Red Sea Wind Energy farm in Ras Ghareb, Egypt, the largest of its kind in the Middle East and Africa. Achieving a total capacity of 650 MW, the project's extension was delivered four months ahead of schedule. The project will power over 1 million homes with renewable energy and aims to cut carbon emissions by approximately 1.3 million tons annually.
Developed by a consortium including ENGIE, Orascom, Toyota Tsusho, and Eurus Energy, and financed by prominent institutions like JBIC and EBRD, this project marks a significant milestone. It operates under a 25-year power purchase agreement with the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company, ensuring long-term revenue.
The project highlights ENGIE’s capacity to implement large-scale renewable initiatives rapidly, bolstering its leadership in the sector across Africa and the Middle East. ENGIE is also progressing with a new 900 MW wind farm in the same region.
