Fielmann Group Backs UKE Study on Eye Health Checkup

Fielmann Group is supporting a medical study at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE) on its Eye Health Checkup. The study, backed by a €600,000 endorsement from Fielmann, aims to scientifically evaluate the effectiveness of Fielmann’s tele-ophthalmological service. Customers in Hamburg opting for this checkup have the opportunity to receive a free ophthalmologist exam at UKE to validate results.

Since its launch in 2024, the Eye Health Checkup has seen uptake by 300,000 customers across Austria, Germany, and Switzerland. With 20% of cases detecting irregularities, these findings lead to further medical consultations. The UKE study is scheduled to publish its findings in 2027. This initiative underscores Fielmann’s contribution to improving accessibility and affordability in primary eyecare, aligning with WHO estimates that highlight the preventability of up to 75% of vision impairment cases globally.
