First Phosphate relies on North American minerals for its LFP batteries

First Phosphate Corp., based in Saguenay, Quebec, announced the production of 18650-size lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery cells. These cells are made from critical North American minerals. This initiative aims to strengthen the LFP battery supply chain on the continent.

The cells use phosphate mined from the Bégin-Lamarche property in Quebec, iron processed in the United States, and lithium carbonate from Nevada. The graphite for the anode comes from Nouveau Monde Graphite's operations in Quebec. The cells are assembled in Las Vegas by Ultion Technologies Inc.

These versatile batteries find applications in robotics, defense, and electric mobility. CEO John Passalacqua presented these advances at an international battery conference.
