Strategic partnership to decarbonize Indonesian maritime transport
On April 16, 2025, PT HDF Energy Indonesia signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Indonesian Ministry of Transportation, PT PLN, and PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry. The goal is to decarbonize maritime transport using green hydrogen. This project focuses on eastern Indonesia, which benefits from sunshine and strategic routes.
HDF Energy is developing 23 Renewstable® power plants combining photovoltaics and hydrogen energy storage. The green hydrogen produced is used to power HDF Energy's fuel cells, reducing emissions from traditional ferries. ASDP, a key player in maritime transport, is helping to identify potential conversions.
PLN, already committed to hydrogen, is supporting this project with various partners. PT BAg is also exploring the use of hydrogen for its maritime systems. This partnership marks a step towards cleaner Indonesian maritime transport.
