Hillcrest Introduces High-Efficiency Power Supply for AI Data Centers

Hillcrest Energy Technologies Ltd. has released a technical paper detailing a new single-stage zero-voltage-switching (ZVS) architecture for 800V AI data centers. The shift from 400V AC to 800V DC systems aims to enhance efficiency. The paper evaluates a complex two-stage design versus a simplified single-stage design using Hillcrest's proprietary technology.

The industry concerns about safety, stemming from reduced conversion stages, are addressed. Hillcrest's approach retains necessary galvanic isolation barriers and adds fault-management functions. Simulation results show that the single-stage design achieves over 99% efficiency, surpassing the 98% efficiency of the two-stage design.

The ZVS PCS1000, Hillcrest’s prototype, exemplifies the single-stage architecture. It benefits from higher switching frequency without penalty, reduced electromagnetic interference, and improved reliability due to lower thermal stress. These innovations present promising advancements for data centers seeking efficiency and reliability.
