Horizon Aircraft's Cavorite X7 Targets Icing Conditions

Horizon Aircraft is advancing its Cavorite X7, a hybrid electric VTOL designed for flying in clouds and known icing conditions. This feature sets it apart from other eVTOL models. The Cavorite X7 is engineered to meet Flight Into Known Icing (FIKI) certifications, a benchmark that only a few helicopters achieve. It aims to deliver crucial services like medevac and search-and-rescue with enhanced safety and lower operational costs.

The Cavorite X7 addresses challenges posed by helicopter operations in icy conditions, which often lead to flight cancellations. Horizon Aircraft has initiated a project with funding from Canada's INSAT program to enhance the Cavorite's ice protection capabilities. This includes testing advanced ice detection and coating technologies.

CEO Brandon Robinson highlights the X7's capacity for all-weather performance. Horizon is building a full-scale version and has expanded its engineering team to support upcoming tests.
