French State Acquires Stake in EMILI Lithium Project
Imerys has announced that Banque des Territoires, representing the French government, will invest in the EMILI lithium project by acquiring a minority stake. This investment is part of the France 2030 strategy to enhance economic and industrial sovereignty. The transaction is set to finalize soon, pending regulatory approvals.
The €50 million investment aims to support the final feasibility study of the EMILI project, crucial for any future decisions on the lithium production site in Allier. This collaboration underscores the strategic importance of securing critical minerals essential for energy transition and aligns with both French and European industrial goals.
The project, supported by French leadership, aims to responsibly source lithium for electric vehicles. This initiative is pivotal in establishing a sustainable French and European value chain for vehicle electrification, meeting the increasing demand for local, low-carbon lithium.
