Indigo to Supply Microsoft with 2.85 Million Tonnes of Carbon Removal Credits

Indigo Agriculture has announced a 12-year agreement to sell 2.85 million soil carbon removal credits to Microsoft. This deal supports thousands of American farmers and involves millions of acres across the U.S. It marks the third transaction between the two companies, following previous purchases of 40,000 and 60,000 tonnes in 2024 and 2025. This agreement emphasizes the role of regenerative agriculture in achieving high-integrity carbon removals.

Regenerative agriculture practices are valued for their ability to remove significant amounts of carbon-dioxide and improve soil health and crop yields. This approach also supports rural communities by improving water conservation and infiltration. The agreement is one of the first to feature credits approved under the Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market's Core Carbon Principles.

Indigo's collaboration includes payment to farmers to promote regenerative practices, enhancing their economic resilience and creating new revenue streams independently of government support. Microsoft's purchase underscores its commitment to becoming carbon negative by 2030 and highlights the ongoing partnership between the two companies to improve carbon market standards.
