Hong Kong Maritime Week 2025: Navigating Toward Sustainability

Hong Kong Maritime Week (HKMW) 2025 united global leaders in the shipping industry under the theme "Navigating to a Greener Future." The event, held from November 16-22, drew over 18,000 participants worldwide, emphasizing collaboration for a sustainable maritime industry.

John Lee, Chief Executive of Hong Kong SAR, highlighted Hong Kong's pivotal role as a maritime hub, advocating for international cooperation to address challenges like climate change. The two-day Asian Logistics, Maritime and Aviation Conference featured key logistics leaders, with an announcement of new Partner Port relationships with Guangxi, Dalian, and Port San Antonio.

Efforts to meet the International Maritime Organization's net-zero carbon goal by 2050 were discussed by Mable Chan, Secretary for Transport and Logistics. Recent initiatives include new codes of practice for LNG and methanol bunkering and a Green Maritime Fuel Bunkering Incentive Scheme.

Financial Secretary Paul Chan pointed out the investment potential in maritime decarbonisation, with Hong Kong positioning itself as a green fuel supply hub by 2030. The development of a Port Community System using technologies like AI and blockchain further supports Hong Kong's maritime service advancement.
