Hong Kong Strengthens Ties with Central Asia through Successful Delegation Visit

Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) wrapped up a significant five-day visit to Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan led by Chief Executive John Lee. The delegation, comprising over 70 leaders from business and institutional sectors, aimed to enhance bilateral relations with Central Asia.

During the mission, Hong Kong and its partners secured 96 co-operation agreements and memoranda of understanding, amounting to over US$1.65 billion. The agreements spanned finance, innovation and technology, aviation, and more. Discussions also initiated on future bilateral agreements.

Key achievements included establishing high-level contacts, promoting direct transport links, and deepening cultural and educational exchanges. A mutual visa-free arrangement and an Air Services Agreement were also set in motion, strengthening trade and people-to-people ties.

Hong Kong’s strategic position was emphasized as a "super connector" under the "one country, two systems" principle, playing a pivotal role in the Belt and Road Initiative and reinforcing its importance in both the Asia-Pacific and Central Asia.
