Hong Kong Unveils Five-Year Strategic Economic Plan

On September 19, 2026, Hong Kong's Chief Executive, John Lee, introduced the First Five-Year Plan for Economic and Social Development, addressing key economic sectors. The plan focuses on enhancing Hong Kong's position as a global financial, trade, and aviation hub. Lee emphasized strengthening the Renminbi business and developing the asset and wealth management ecosystem.

Initiatives include the launch of a central clearing system for gold by 2027 and enhancing Hong Kong's trade relationships globally. Since last October, over 340 Mainland enterprises have been supported in going global. Efforts to expand Hong Kong's network through free trade and investment agreements are underway.

In maritime, Hong Kong seeks to become a "Global Maritime Capital" by leveraging high-value services. Aviation efforts focus on expanding networks and business opportunities, maintaining its status as a major cargo hub. Additionally, the city aims to drive innovation in AI, aligning with strategic national technology priorities.
