NanoViricides Begins Phase II Trial of Oral Ebola Treatment

NanoViricides, Inc. has initiated a Phase II clinical trial for NV-387 oral gummies targeting the Bundibugyo Ebolavirus and other strains in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). This trial commenced patient enrollment and dosing on September 23, 2026, at an Ebola Treatment Center in the Ituri province. The trial is registered in the Pan African Clinical Trials Registry.

The trial aims to establish a dosing protocol that is safe and well-tolerated, considering Ebola's high fatality rate. The Phase IIB aspect will focus on evaluating the safety and efficacy of NV-387. This drug represents the only orally administered treatment currently in trials, contrasting with infusion-based therapies like Remdesivir and monoclonal antibodies.

As the Ebola outbreak in DRC worsens, with thousands affected and high mortality rates, the potential for an effective oral treatment like NV-387 becomes increasingly crucial.
