NanoViricides Ships NV-387 for Phase II Trial in DR Congo

NanoViricides, Inc. announced the shipment of their NV-387 Oral Gummies for a Phase II clinical trial in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), targeting Monkeypox (MPox). The trial, prepared by Om Sai Clinical Research, is set to begin following staff training. The trial was delayed due to site changes and travel restrictions from an Ebola virus outbreak in the DRC.

NanoViricides sees NV-387 as a potential broad-spectrum antiviral that can target multiple pathogens, including Ebola and Monkeypox. With no current approved treatments for the Bundibugyo Ebola virus, NV-387 could play a key role if successful in trials. The company has applied for Orphan Drug Designation in the U.S., potentially granting economic benefits.

Challenges include the lack of existing drugs for MPox and the limited efficacy of current vaccines. NV-387's potential success could fill a significant gap amid the increasing prevalence of MPox in the U.S.
