OPPO Licenses Patents to Volkswagen for Connected Vehicles

On June 5, 2025, OPPO announced a global patent licensing agreement with Volkswagen Group. This agreement involves licensing OPPO's cellular standard-essential patents, including 5G, to Volkswagen. This aims to enhance user experiences in Volkswagen's connected vehicles across its global lineup.

Vincent Lin, Head of Patent Licensing at OPPO, highlighted the importance of this collaboration, acknowledging the efforts of Volkswagen's IP team. Robin Cefai, Chief IP Licensing Officer at Volkswagen, emphasized the partnership as a model of efficient collaboration in patent licensing.

This agreement represents OPPO's first bilateral patent licensing with a connected-car company, showcasing the broader application of its technologies beyond smartphones. As of early 2025, OPPO is a global leader in 5G patent strength, with patents filed in over 40 countries.
