Swiss Re Highlights Rising Protection Needs Amid Complex Risks

Monte Carlo, 7 September 2026 – Swiss Re underlines the increasing demand for protection as global risks grow more interconnected. Speaking at the Rendez-Vous de Septembre, the company emphasized its role in helping clients navigate these challenges through advanced data and analytics. According to Urs Baertschi, CEO of Property & Casualty Reinsurance, evolving exposures require more than traditional reinsurance; expertise and tailored solutions are essential in this complex landscape.

Natural catastrophes are a key factor driving reinsurance demand. Swiss Re's research indicates that insured natural catastrophe losses could reach USD 320 billion during 2026 peak loss scenarios. The rise in risks like Europe's growing wildfire peril demonstrates a need for better data and adaptation strategies.

Additionally, investments in AI and data centers present new opportunities for risk transfer, with insurance premiums potentially reaching USD 91 billion by 2030. However, US liability risks and geopolitical tensions add uncertainty, necessitating diligent underwriting and risk assessment to ensure resilience.
