Agallas Equities Expands Beyond the Caribbean With New US and Infrastructure Funds

NEW YORK, NY, July 22nd, 2026, FinanceWire

Agallas Equities, a New York-based investment firm that built its name on Dominican Republic real estate, is expanding into two new markets at once: US property and global infrastructure.

The firm, founded in 2022 by Manuel Tavarez and Nelson Tejada Jr., first drew attention for its Agallas Equities Real Estate Fund I, a $400 million vehicle targeting sports and entertainment venues, climate-resilient hospitality projects backed by CONFOTUR tax incentives, and mixed-use developments in the Dominican Republic. The fund is targeting a net internal rate of return of 18% to 20% over a three- to seven-year horizon, according to the firm.

Agallas is now preparing to launch a second fund focused on opportunistic and value-add real estate acquisitions in US gateway and secondary markets, betting on assets positioned to benefit from demographic shifts and adaptive reuse. Alongside it, the firm is rolling out a global infrastructure fund aimed at energy transition, digital connectivity, and transportation logistics projects across emerging and developed economies — a bet that institutional appetite for infrastructure will keep growing as governments lean on private capital to close funding gaps.

Tavarez described the expansion as a natural extension of the firm's original approach rather than a pivot. "We've proven our thesis in the Dominican Republic," he said. "Now we're applying the same disciplined approach — local insight, institutional rigor, and creative capital structuring — to the US and global infrastructure landscapes."

A distinguishing feature of Agallas Equities's model, according to the firm, is its ability to connect capital sources that rarely intersect. The firm says it is building investment relationships with Gulf Cooperation Council institutional investors, directing Middle Eastern capital toward both its Caribbean and infrastructure strategies, while also drawing on longstanding ties to the Dominican diaspora and US community stakeholders — a dual-sided network the firm argues few competitors can replicate.

Tavarez brings nearly two decades in commercial real estate finance and cross-border development, including work on major New York projects. In 2025, he led Agallas's bid for the redevelopment of the Bronx's Kingsbridge Armory, a process that ended in litigation after the award was reversed. Tavarez has been vocal about the outcome, calling it emblematic of a broader problem. "This isn't just about our company," he said. "It's about proving that the Bronx won't tolerate business-as-usual corruption."

Outside the firm, Tavarez co-founded the International Salsa Museum, a nonprofit focused on cultural preservation — a project he has said reflects the same community ties that inform Agallas's investment approach.

Taken together, the three funds mark a shift for Agallas from a single-market real estate manager to a multi-strategy platform spanning Caribbean development, US real estate, and global infrastructure. With a $400 million Caribbean fund already deploying capital, a US vehicle in the pipeline, and an infrastructure fund positioned to capture energy and connectivity spending, the firm is betting that its cross-border capital relationships and hands-on execution model will set it apart from larger, more generalist competitors.

Whether that bet pays off will depend on execution across three distinct markets at once — a harder test than the one Agallas has already passed in the Dominican Republic. But for a firm barely four years old, the scale of the expansion has already put it on the radar of institutional investors watching where cross-border capital moves next.
