Tricoastal Scapes Announces Goal to Make Biophilic Design a Standard in Landscaping

Los Angeles, CA, USA, June 2nd, 2026, FinanceWire

Environmentally-friendly design tends to be an afterthought in landscaping, but for Tricoastal Scapes, it’s a foundation.

In a recent discussion about the company’s contributions to landscape design, Tricoastal Scapes announced its goal to make biophilic design a standard in landscaping.

This announcement followed the company’s founder, Mo Helmi, stating his views on the future of landscape design, explaining that by 2030, prestige “looks like… environments that are beautiful, scientifically informed, low-impact, and future-proof.”

Tricoastal Scapes’s emphasis on making biodiversity and environmentally friendly components the foundation of its designs is intended to play an important role in changing how people perceive both luxury and sustainability.

A Background in Visual Culture

Before his work in landscape design, Helmi’s background was in fashion and visual culture. At this time, he learned how environments, materials, and aesthetics shape emotion, behavior, and identity. Fashion, meanwhile, taught Helmi about desire, fashion, and storytelling, though he also began to question matters of scale and impact.

This line of questioning led Helmi to requalify as a Landscape Artist, a transition he states was a natural extension of his existing skill set. His interest in landscape as the intersection of art, science, and responsibility led him to learn more about biophilic design and environmental science, providing him with the philosophical platform he would soon build on to develop Tricoastal Scapes.

Challenging Pre-Conceived Notions

Helmi ultimately built Tricoastal Scapes to challenge the idea that environmentally responsible design is inherently utilitarian or moralistic, concepts he says people accept but don’t necessarily want. His objective for his company became clear: create spaces where climate intelligence, biodiversity, and human well-being are embedded into environments that don’t ask people to compromise their standards of beauty to be responsible.

To accomplish this objective, Tricoastal Scapes treats its projects as “living art,” a concept the company states centers on precision, taking into account factors such as local climate, people, and ecology. Tricoastal Scapes emphasizes designing landscapes that are viable for both the present and the future, constructing them in a way that allows each project’s organic components to develop over time.

The Practicality of Urban Greening

In an effort to counter the perception that urban greening is overly idealistic, Tricoastal Scapes strongly emphasizes long-term viability and the importance of purposeful maintenance. The company teaches clients necessary stewardship practices and explains that urban greening works best when considered in decades rather than quarters.

Today, Tricoastal Scapes aims to make climate intelligence aspirational by using resilient landscapes and biophilic spaces to signal leadership and responsibility. In doing so, the company hopes to alter perceptions of what luxury and prestige look like in landscape design, turning away from excess toward spaces that quietly persist through adaptation and ecological communion.
