Zeverra Introduces Coloured Silicon Carbide Gemstones

Zeverra, the engineered gemstone brand owned by Mephexus Group – house of luxury brands, today announced the introduction of coloured stones to its range. The first release includes deep blue, pink and orange-red, cut and calibrated to the same sizes as the existing colourless range. Stones are available to jewellery partners from December 2026.

Zeverra has produced colourless stones since the brand was founded. The move into colour follows from the material rather than from a trend. Silicon carbide separates white light into spectral colour at more than twice the rate of diamond, and that property is more visible in a stone with a dark body than in a colourless one.

Zeverra stones have a dispersion of 0.104, against 0.044 for diamond. Dispersion is the measure of how widely a material splits white light into its component colours. In a colourless stone, the resulting flashes of green, gold and violet compete with the brightness of the stone itself. In a stone with a dark body colour, the field behind those flashes is darker and they read with far greater contrast. It is the principle that makes black opal show colour more vividly than white opal.

“We did not add colour because colour is fashionable,” said Dimitrios Pliatsios, CEO of Mephexus Group. “We added it because a dark body is the best background there is for the one property that defines this material. A colourless stone hides some of its own fire behind its own brightness. A dark stone hides nothing.”

The blue stone leading the release returns deep blue at one angle and gold at another, and the shift is visible as the hand or the head moves. For the coloured range Zeverra recommends open-backed settings in white metal, so that light enters the stone from behind as well as from above and the body colour is not warmed by the metal surrounding it.

Zeverra stones measure 9.25 on the Mohs scale of hardness. Diamond measures 10. Every Zeverra stone, colourless or coloured, ships with a numbered ZEVERRA certificate card, and that card is registered by the owner to validate the lifetime guarantee carried by the stone.

Coloured stones are supplied in the same cuts as the colourless range and are available to jewellery partners from November 2026.
